Dialogue Circle on The Philadelphia Eleven
Sunday, August 25
9 am
Cay's Room
Last Sunday, St. Mary's hosted a screening of the powerful documentary The Philadelphia Eleven, which tells the story of women's ordination in the Episcopal Church. After efforts to affirm women's access to the priesthood failed at the 1970 and 1973 General Conventions, on July 29, 1974, eleven women were ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in inspired defiance of church canon and began their ministry as priests. Two years later, the Episcopal Church voted to include women's ordination in church canon. This Sunday, join us in Cay's Room between the morning services to share your thoughts about, reactions to, or memories of this piece of our church's history.
Dialogue Circles are designed to create a safe and open space for conversation, listening, reflection and prayer on current or contentious subjects. If you have suggestions for or would like to help facilitate future dialogue circles, please email Eric Backman.
