Advent is the annual season of preparation to receive the Christ child. Each year we bring with us our own experiences, understanding, and wondering about the stories of Christ’s birth: the annunciations to Zechariah and Mary, Joseph’s dream, the manger, the shepherds, the magi... Has the meaning of these stories changed for you over time? How do you understand them today, and how are they calling you to live?
We are engaging these and other questions through the lens of a little book called The Light of the World, by a Jewish scholar of the New Testament, Amy Jill Levine. We will discuss a chapter at each meeting, taking time to slow down together in the midst of a season of flurried activity, and see what we learn through each other's words and through shared silence.
Facilitators: Eric Backman, the Rev. Pat Moore
Copies of Light of the World are available to purchase in the church narthex for $15 each. It is also available at local booksellers and as an audiobook.
