Introducing Annie Nilsson
We are delighted to announce that Annie Nilsson has been hired as the new choir director for the organ choir!
Mrs. Nilsson, who was born and raised in Fairbanks, has a teaching certificate and BA in vocal performance from the University of Oregon, and an MS in Education and Informational Technology from Western Oregon University. A talented soprano, she has been a part of the local singing community for decades, performing with the Anchorage Chamber Singers, Bel Canto, and as a soloist in community performances of Handel's Messiah in both Fairbanks and Anchorage, to name a few examples. She also plays the flute, and has taught guitar, ukulele, and a variety of other instruments.
Mrs. Nilsson recently retired after 26 years with the Anchorage School District teaching elementary music and middle and high school choir. She loves sharing music with others, and, in addition to her work with St. Mary's organ choir, will be reopening her private music studio this fall. She also enjoys cooking, reading, riding her bicylce, and spending time with her husband Levi, her teenaged sons Cameron and Sawyer, and her labradoodle Jedi.
Welcome to St. Mary's, Mrs. Nilsson!
