Editor's note: Charlene is one of this year's recipients of the Heart of St. Mary's award, which was presented to her last Sunday.

I am honored and humbled to be recognized for contributing to the St. Mary’s Church family and its myriad ministries throughout Anchorage and Malawi, South Africa. My sincere thanks to anyone/everyone who nominated me, and particularly to every parishioner who has welcomed me into the St. Mary’s family!

I still recall the first moments of entering St. Mary’s and being greeted with open arms. By the service’s end I realized I had stumbled upon a community of holiness surrounded in the Holy Spirit.

Throughout the past two years, I have been blessed with your notes of encouragement, thank-you notes, photos of my Confirmation with Bishop Mark Lattime’s laying on of hands, and a congratulatory note marking the one-year anniversary of my joining the church. So many of you have taken me under your wings to guide me through the steps necessary to do whatever needs to be done at a particular moment. If gratitude increases happiness, I am in a constant state of wellbeing! I am blessed.
