Mission Outreach Grant Awards
Each year, St. Mary’s provides a total of about $10,000 in endowment-supported grant funding for small, community-oriented non-profit organizations and church outreach activities through the Mission Outreach Grant project. This year, the application review team has chosen 11 grant recipients, which we will be highlighting in the newsletter in the coming weeks so that the whole congregation can share in the joy and blessing that our church family is bringing to others through this work.
The AK Cubs Closet, which is run in part by former Playschool employee Faaleu Faumuina, is a small non-profit close to St. Mary’s heart. Its founders recognized that support programs in Anchorage focus mostly on food and other short-term necessities, and organized to fill a largely unmet need for clothing. AK Cubs Closet accepts donations of children’s clothing and then gives it all back to to the community, free of charge. They currently serve about 50 families a month, and their numbers continue to grow!
AK Cubs Closet's Outreach Grant funds will be used to help pay rent and utilities costs, which the organizers usually cover out of their own personal finances.
